Sink or Swim: Cardboard Boat Challenge
|
Constraints:
Design Process: 1. Generate Concepts by researching boat design, buoyancy & displacement of water. 2. Brainstorm boat design and generate sketches with dimensions. 3. Build the prototype to scale and test the weight with clay in kiddie pool using the correct weight ratio. 4. Redesign if needed, make adjustments. 5. Build Boat and have fun! TEAM: Michaela, Grace, Alex 1, Alex 2. BOAT THEME: On the pontoon! |
Compound Machines:
Design Constraints
- The applied effort force may only be provided by a single human input.
- The final design must include a minimum of three mechanisms including any of the simple machines: a gear system; a belt and pulley system; and/or a sprocket and chain system.
- The compound machine must have a mechanical advantage greater than 1.
My Machine:
The machine my team and I decided to make was one that used a pulley system, 5 wheel and axles, and a chain and sprocket system to turn a cap off of a bottle that had an IMA greater than 1.

New York City MakerFaire:
Interveiw Project:
For this project i interveiwed my grandmother, I call her Nana. She is a hardworking woman who cares so much about her job and family. She has done alot for me and never gives up on anything in life. She is someone I can count on no matter what and I really respect her. She truely inspires me every day.
POE Catapult Design
Design Constraints:
This was one of our previous projects in POE. We were given 2 weeks to build, collect data, and make modifications. My team was Jaggers, Didy, and myself. We worked together to build the catapult in the given directions. We took data collection and then made modifications. Those modifications consisted of extending our arm that was like a runway for the ping-pong ball which was what was being shot. We also made the catapult mobile.

MODERN MAKER
2016-17 Christmas Ornaments:
This ornament is for Robert its hand painted and I think its very cute.
|
This ornament is for Donna. The little snowman has been re-painted so his head doesnt look like it has a hole in it. He's also cute. :)

iLead Maker Day:
Today I made a Christmas tree out of a pallet of wood. I sawed the pallet then I cut supports across the back. I used the band saw to cut the star. After this was all done, I drilled holes in the bottom and up the sides. I'm going to put lights through each hole and then wrap lights around the rest.

VEX Robotics
In POE we have been working on our VEX robots and recently competed at Grant County HS. We didn't do too well but we met our goal of not being in the bottom 10 teams. We gained a lot of knowledge about how to improve our robot, what parts we need but didn't have, and met some very nice people that were happy to help. Our robot was able to push items out of the 2 point zone and under the bar into the competitors side. We were also able to knock things off the top bar if we were lucky. We are now making modifications and adding a new lift with an actual claw. Our next competition is on Feb. 4th.

TSA Regional:
At TSA I did Tech Problem Solving. I was really thrown for a loop because we did something completely different than what I prepared for. We did an instant design challenge that used marshmallows and spaghetti to build a weight bearing structure. I've done this before so I had experience. Unfortunately, this experience didn't help me. I didn't do well in this. Overall I'm glad I got the experience but I didn't sign up for the same event at state.

TSA STATE:
This year was iLead's first year at TSA State. It was overall a lot of fun and a great experience. I competed in Future Technology Teacher, Essays on Technology, and On-demand video. I didn't do as well as I had hoped but I now know what I need to improve on for next year. I plan on competing in the same events next year. I am proud of iLead. As a school we definitely rocked at state.

Hydraulic Arm-POE
Equipment
This activity will allow your team of two or three to determine why the sizes of two hydraulic cylinders allow force to be increased while work remains the same. Your team will design a system to take advantage of the force increase from the hydraulic system in addition to another mechanism of your choice to further increase mechanical advantage. |
